 Director of Planning and Engineering
The City of Yorkton, home to 17,200 residents, is Saskatchewan’s fifth largest city. Yorkton has recently seen unprecedented growth resulting in a population increase of 2,000 residents in the past four years. The municipal operation consists of nine departments including Administration, Environmental Services, Gallagher Centre, Finance, Fire Protection, Human Resources, Leisure Services, Planning & Engineering, and Public Works. The city’s current vibrancy and continued future growth requires a strategic thinker as its next Director of Planning and Engineering.
Recognizing the unlimited potential of this vibrant community and the importance of achieving strategic goals and objectives, the Director of Planning and Engineering will lead the community’s ongoing growth and development. As a key member of the management team and reporting to the City Manager, you use your strong planning skills to lead the City of Yorkton through interesting and challenging projects and provide advice and guidance to all departments with respect to the implementation of the City’s official community plan. In addition to leading the planning and engineering professionals, and working with community and other stakeholders, you will work very closely with City Council, providing information on emerging policy and land use planning issues, options and recommendations, enabling them to make informed decisions on behalf of the community.
You are known as a decisive, take-charge, strategic thinker with strong planning, human resource and negotiation skills. You are a consensus builder and recognized for your business integrity. You are politically astute and fully conversant with the challenges facing growing communities and recognize the importance of impeccable customer service delivery. Your background will include a degree in Urban or Regional Planning or related profession combined with 3-5 years of experience in positions of increasing responsibility, within a municipal or a private sector setting. With a CIP/APCPS membership, you are ready to lead the planning of a growing community.
